Jupiter is hot and moist by nature, and it signifies the blood; all diseases originating from hot and moist causes are ascribed to this planet. It indicates ailments of the liver and lungs, pleurisy, convulsions, inflammation of the liver, apoplexy, windiness in the veins and blood, and any diseases arising from putrefaction there. Its indication of diseases in each of the twelve signs is as follows:
Jupiter in Aries
When Jupiter is in Aries and is the principal significator of a disease, it declares that the sickness proceeds from a disorder of the blood in the head. Often the sick person’s face is swollen and the head much afflicted; typically the temples are red, and the patient sleeps very restlessly, troubled by strange fancies and dreams. The cause of the distemper usually arises from windiness of the blood in the veins of the head, sometimes from an imposthume.
Jupiter in Taurus
Jupiter in Taurus, as significator aforesaid, gives suspicion of quinsy, a disease usually subject to the throat. However, we may judge swellings in that member when we find Jupiter the author of the disease and in this sign, and also that the blood is too thick and dry.
Jupiter in Gemini
Jupiter in Gemini intimates that the disease arises from an overflow of blood, and that there is too much. Opening a vein or sweating is an excellent remedy for those afflicted with this infirmity.
Jupiter in Cancer
Jupiter in Cancer, and principal significator of a disease, shows the blood to be thin and watery, the party inclined to dropsy. The blood is filled with phlegm, and often the scurvy and watery humors in the blood cause the distemper. We may judge also that the sick party has no great appetite for food and that the stomach is offended.
Jupiter in Leo
Jupiter in Leo intimates that the disease proceeds from putrefied humors, that the blood is overheated, and the sick party inclined to a fever, which may be confidently affirmed if other testimonies concur. Nevertheless, the disease has its origin from putrefaction at the heart; bleeding and sweating are much to be commended in this infirmity, for sometimes the disease is pestilential.
Jupiter in Virgo
Jupiter in Virgo shows the blood to be oppressed and much infected with melancholy, and that by reason of coldness and dryness in the liver and lungs, the sick party is much afflicted. Often the flux is to be feared upon this position; however, we may judge the blood to be thick and too gross, and the party inclined to consumption. In women it signifies fits of the mother.
Jupiter in Libra
Jupiter in Libra has great signification of the blood, in that it is an airy sign representing the same. We usually observe upon this position that the sick party has great need of bleeding, for the blood abounds exceedingly, from which sometimes arise corrupt humors and diseases of putrefaction; often adustion of blood, if Venus is with Jupiter in this sign.
Jupiter in Scorpio
Jupiter in Scorpio has almost the same signification as in Cancer, only we find that the sick party is more oppressed with salt humors in the blood. We also usually discern some grief in the privy members, in that this sign has some relation to them, namely the strangury.
Jupiter in Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces
Jupiter in Sagittarius usually denotes choleric humors in the blood, and that it is overheated by some extravagant exercise, from which arise fevers proceeding from choler. Likewise, when in Capricorn it declares the blood to be afflicted with melancholy; in Aquarius it intimates that from the abundance of blood arises the sickness or infirmity; and in Pisces it denotes the blood to be watery and thin, and dropsy may be feared when Jupiter is in Pisces and significator of a disease, for the blood is much oppressed with phlegm and watery humors upon such a position.
We now in order come to speak of Mars and the diseases signified by him, but in that those diseases attributed to Mars differ not much from those signified by the Sun, since they are both of one nature, therefore for brevity’s sake we will handle them both together.
