Health and the Sixth House
The sixth house primarily concerns the native's health, so when Uranus is placed there, the expectation is that illnesses may be strange, subtle, and at times sudden or severe. Typically, these will be nervous in nature or otherwise affect the native's will, disrupting the connection between sensory and motor functions. The specific form such a malady might take cannot be determined immediately; it requires a careful study of the sign on the house cusp and its ruler. For instance, Uranus in Aries on the cusp of this house presumably accounted for the deafness that afflicted Edison, since Aries governs the head. The square of the Moon to Uranus appears to indicate an affliction of the sensory rather than the motor apparatus. Had Mars been similarly afflicted, the trouble would likely have manifested as some form of paralysis.
The native should be extremely cautious about health and maintain the best possible condition to resist disease when it does occur. As a general rule, its onset is likely to be so sudden and unexpected that precautions beyond those mentioned are probably useless. It is obviously no good to take an umbrella into the trenches. Therefore, efforts should be made to live a life as free as possible from strain or worry, and the company of people who jar the nerves should not be endured with much patience, as if no such threat to the stability of the system existed.
Servants and Subordinates
The sixth house also refers to servants, and on the whole, Uranus's presence here is very unfavorable. Unless the native is a person of very strong character, servants are likely to be better individuals than the native and may become their masters. The difficulties Mary Queen of Scots experienced with her subjects may have been due to this cause. Generally speaking, there is a liability to unexpected and unfortunate events in this connection. It is not that Uranus is malefic as such—we have seen that it is not—but rather that the idea of a servant normally precludes individuality, originality, and independence. You do not want an inferior to think for you; you want them to do exactly as told and nothing else. When they insist on being themselves, they become useless to you. The same remarks apply to some extent to every class of person one may encounter, from one's own father or wife to a mere acquaintance. You want to know exactly what the other person will do, and to the extent that this is not the case, you feel uneasy about them.
Ambassadors and Patronage
The sixth house also indicates 'ambassadors,' and this word may be taken, in extreme cases, to include inspiration. Messages are likely to come to the native from all sorts of important people, and if the native is in a position requiring the patronage of the great, it will probably be obtained. This is exemplified by Wagner and Kant. However, Uranus's general tendency to upset things suddenly also applies to such affairs. The native cannot count on the continued support of the great, as they could if Jupiter were in this position. Exceptional aspects may, of course, modify the judgment. If, for example, Jupiter were the lord of the sixth and true to Uranus, the combination would be ideal.
Uranus will indicate the character of the ambassador's servants, and it will frequently occur that these persons are mentally or morally defective, or at the very least eccentric. In the case of Mary Queen of Scots, the characters of Darnley and Bothwell, to take just two of many, were far from all that could be desired, while with regard to Wagner, Ludwig II of Bavaria is an extreme example of what the malice of Uranus can achieve. One may also remark upon the character of old King Leopold in connection with the case of Cleo de Merode, who also had this position. It would perhaps be going too far to comment upon the notorious proclivities of Frederick when considering the case of Kant.
Speculative Investments
The sixth house refers to speculative investment as distinguished from pure gambling for the love of it, and here Uranus exhibits the same characteristics, mutatis mutandis, as in other matters. The native is likely to conceive great ideas, the carrying out of which will be liable to very great vicissitudes.
Small Animals and Farming
As far as the sixth house refers to small animals, the indication is that the native is not likely to be particularly successful in farming or breeding. Unfortunate accidents will constantly interfere with success.
Apparel and Dress
As far as the house refers to apparel, Uranus's presence will produce all kinds of eccentricity. The same peculiarities expressed by Uranus in the Ascendant will be translated into terms of costume when Uranus is in the sixth house.
